The Dictionary of Biblical Imagery by Inter-Varsity Press indicates “hand” occurs approximately 1800 times in the English Bible with approximately two-thirds used in a figurative or metaphorical way. Several idioms using hand relate to strength or power. To “strengthen the hands” of someone was to enable someone who needed help. Nehemiah asked the Lord to strengthen his hands for the building work he was called to complete (Nehemiah 6:9). In Nehemiah 2:18, they “strengthened their hands” meaning they became courageous and mighty to prevail so the good work could be accomplished. Also, to “open the hand” expresses the action of blessing. In Psalm 145:16, God “opens His hand” to satisfy the desires of His creation. To “lend a hand” means to give assistance or aid, to take an active part. The act of “joining hands” is an expression of agreement. To “be a hand” is to be a specialized person whose work is done with the hands, often part of a crew of persons joined together for a specific purpose, such as a ship’s crew or a construction crew. Will you become a River Hand?A River Hand is one who senses the leading of the Lord to become: a strengthening hand; an open hand; a lending hand; a joined hand; and to be a hand with Rising River Ministries, Inc. in advancing the work of the Kingdom through the mission and vision God has mandated for this ministry.
